Extreme Makeover – Karori Edition

23 Sep

This is one seriously exciting thing that’s happened to me lately(ish)… A quick background…

My friend was marred in Rarotonga in July this year, and unfortunately due to the time of year Mattie couldn’t get leave.  He dropped me off at the airport at about 5am and I flew off into the sunrise with all my girls and had 5 fantastic nights in paradise.

Meanwhile back at the ranch…  Instead of going back to bed before work, Matt set about clearing EVERYTHING out of our bedroom, bed and all!  The next 4 days were spend not only working long days, but burning the midnight oil.  With massive thanks to his friend Mark (who’s a plaster/painter by trade and is now almost finished his building apprenticeship), some friend, and his mum and dad our bedroom now looks absolutely stunning!  (Before I continue, I should mention that I had no idea that any of this was going on!)

We’d discussed doing up our bedroom but I didn’t think it was that much of a priority (compared to the bathroom etc.) so he knew the general look and feel we were going for.  We’d previously been into Resene and had a look through their wallpapers.  We ended up buying some since it was 50% off at the time to just hold on to till we were ready.  I’d totally forgotten about that since it was being ordered from Italy and was meant to take about 6-8 weeks!

Looking at the photos, it seems that perhaps it did need urgent work?!…

Thanks to our lovely family and friends, spending their nights at our place we ended up with a truly gorgeous room including…

  • 2 layers of plaster on the walls and ceiling
  • New Curtains (thanks to Matt’s mum)
  • A gorgeous light fitting (again from Lighting Direct on Thorndon Quay)
  • A fantastic wallpaper feature wall
  • A new duvet cover and sheets (again from Matt’s parents)
  • An awesome big space for a new wardrobe system
  • New lovely smooth walls in Resene’s Quarter Sisal

And all of this cost just over $1,500… ($800 for labour & materials, $500 for paint, $260 for the light)
